캠핑에서 만난 Robert는 전화번호를 나누자고 했다. 언젠가 Arkansas로 내려오게 되면 연락해 달라고도 말했다. 난 아내에게 왜 그가 나를 만난 것을 honor라고 했는지 생각한후 그가 우리를 일본인으로 보는지 모르겠다고 말했다. 잠시 일본인들이 부러웠다. 난 집으로 떠날때 그를 다시 만나면 “さようなら(샤요나라)”라고 말하자고 아내에게 말했다.  more

Trials are difficult circumstances allowed or sent by God to build spiritual strength, while temptations are enticements to sin aimed at causing spiritual failure or destruction.
We can rejoice when we are tested because I have been undergoing trials throughout my life and can still rejoice even at an advanced age. My life experiences demonstrate that the Word is indeed alive.  more

“할아버지, 어디 가세요?” 다섯 살짜리 손녀딸이 목요일 오후에 내게 물었다.
소이어는 계단 아래에 서서 고피쉬 카드 한 벌을 꽉 쥐고 있었다.
“일 좀 해야겠어.” 나는 아내 다이앤을 흘끗 보며 말했다. 아내는 방금 생후 8개월 된 손자 키튼을 낮잠 재웠다. “할머니가 너랑 놀아줄게.”
소이어는 커다란 파란 눈으로 나를 빤히 쳐다보며 말했다. “셋이서 하면 더 재밌어.”
죄책감이 가슴을 짓눌렀다. more
